This is finally a place where you get innovative and classical tasty French food, specialties from French regions, and - above all - fresh oysters and sea food, not to forget to mention the excellent collection of French wines. A place where you can let your family and your best friends enjoy French bistro gastronomy.
Restaurant L'Annexe is located on a corner in a quiet neighbourhood close to the Ixelles Cemetery. Looking in from the outside, the restaurant seemed warm and welcoming, but surprisingly empty on a saturday night. The Maitre D was kind but gave the impression that he had not been working there very long. The server on the other hand, was prompt and uninvasive, which was perfect for a romantic dinner.
My companion and I both ordered the three course 'menu surprise' which seemed a good value for 38Euros. The amuse bouche of watercress mousse and grey shrimp was tasty and gave a good forecast of our entree plates, which was a crab salad with crab jus and cucumber. This salad was refreshing, seasoned nicely with a nice kick of spice and had we not been in a restaurant, we would've both licked our plates clean. My main course plate was fish and my companion's was duck served with a kind of jus (they gave the option meat or fish when we ordered). My fish was crunchy which was nice, but it was a bit underseasoned for my taste. I had a bite of the duck, which regretfully I should have ordered, and it was sublime. The cuisson was perfect, nicely seasoned and the jus was rich but not too heavy. Our meal was finished off with a poached pear dessert, which was light, tasty and thus very welcome after having had the two other courses beforehand.
All in all, I found this restaurant to be a gem in the sea of restaurants that can be found in this area of brussels. I highly recommend it for a romantic dinner or a special dinner with friends.
